Opportunity to relieve congestion in Brighouse whilst facilitating job creation and housing.

The Clifton New Employment Site took a step forward when it was assigned as an Enterprise Zone in 2015, and the subsequent development of ideas to maximise this designation has now provided the data to submit a bid for £4.5M of Department of Transport funding.

Calderdale Council has made the case for a road across the Employment Site to relieve congestion at the A643/A644 roundabout whilst providing improved access to the employment land on either side of the proposed road and increased capacity for a garden suburb in the surrounding district (Subject to the new Local Plan).

The Piece Hall to re-open on Yorkshire Day

The Piece Hall in Halifax will re-open its gates to the public on Tuesday 1 August 2017 after the completion of Calderdale Council’s multi-million pound transformation programme, which includes support of £7million from The National Lottery. 

At 10am on Yorkshire Day the bell above the west gate will be rung to echo the first day of trading at The Piece Hall on 1 January 1779.

Company appointed to drive forward rail station masterplan for Halifax

Ambitious plans for the future of Halifax train station have taken a stride forward. Calderdale Council has appointed the Leeds office of global professional services and engineering consultancy WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff to take forward plans to deliver the ‘Halifax Station Gateway’.

Leave the car at home for 1 in 5

A new campaign to encourage people to leave their car at home one day a week will launch in Calderdale this April.

By persuading people to take at least one in five of their journeys by bike, foot, train or bus, Calderdale Council hopes the campaign will encourage people to be more physically active, improve air quality and help make local towns and villages safer.

Leeds Beckett business centre to drive economic growth in Halifax

Leeds Beckett University, in partnership with Calderdale Council, is launching a new initiative to drive growth amongst early-stage and growing businesses.

The University Business Centre will be based at Piece Mill in Halifax, situated next to the historic Piece Hall, which is currently undergoing a multi-million pound transformation programme and will re-open later this year.

Growth Deal boost to Calderdale

A series of major projects across Calderdale may now get the go ahead as part of the Leeds City Region Growth Deal 3 settlement.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet will meet to discuss a report which outlines how some of the money may be invested in the borough to boost growth and jobs.

The announcement of an additional £67.5m investment in Leeds City Region was made by the Government in January 2017.  This means the region will have received over £1.1bn of Growth Deal investment since 2014, creating over 19,600 jobs over the next five years.

Vision to boost growth in Brighouse

Calderdale Council is developing a strategic vision for Brighouse and Rastrick, as work continues on the development of the Local Plan.

The Council is now gathering evidence, which will be submitted with the Local Plan, on areas of Calderdale which are suitable for sustainable development.  

The ‘Vision for South East Calderdale’ identifies potential sites for new homes on the Southern and North Eastern sides of Brighouse, to create  ‘garden suburbs’ which would include new homes and improved local facilities such as schools and parkland.

However you choose to travel, getting around Calderdale and surrounding districts could soon be a lot easier, as members discuss the introduction of the Calderdale Transport Strategy 2016-2031.

Across the country the way people are travelling is changing. Rates of car use and ownership have declined in many cities and more people are choosing to cycle or walk to work. The use of rail travel is also an increasingly popular mode of transport in Calderdale, and smart technology is transforming the way people are using transport.

Train station improvements on track

Plans for major upgrades to Halifax train station are set to move a step closer, as Calderdale Council’s Economy and Investment Panel is asked to give the go ahead to carry out more detailed feasibility work. Today (Thursday 20 October) the Panel will discuss the exciting proposals for a complete revamp of Halifax Station and the surrounding area. The vision is to improve journeys for passengers, reduce travel times, create a more attractive environment, improve links with key attractions and boost the local economy.
