Creating a world-class train station

26th March, 2018

We're excited to share our early designs showing how Halifax train station could be transformed to improve access to the town and boost economic growth.

Around two million people use Halifax train station every year, and we have an ambitious target to see 50% more rail trips in 2026 than in 2016. Improving the station and the way people access it will help meet future demand. It will also improve the travel experience, create a more attractive environment and boost the local economy by increasing investment, jobs and tourism.

Accessibility for everyone, including step-free access, is a key feature of the design, as well as the blend of old and new. Read more about the exciting concept design, which has been given approval by Cabinet.

More detailed designs will be prepared by 2019 and consulted on in 2019. Subject to further approvals, we anticipate that construction could start in 2021.
